Forest Pivirotto Obituary, Death – A tragic incident occurred on Saturday involving a 34-year-old motorcyclist, Forest Pivirotto from Tucumcari, N.M., who was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 550 near the top of Coal Bank Pass, located between Durango and Silverton. According to Capt. Angela DeGuelle of the Colorado State Patrol, Pivirotto was riding a KTM 990 motorcycle northbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle on a double-yellow line.

During this maneuver, Pivirotto entered a sharp left-hand turn, lost control of the motorcycle, and crashed into the guardrail. The crash occurred at around 11:48 a.m., near mile marker 58, approximately a mile north of the Coal Bank Pass summit.

Despite being an endorsed motorcyclist and wearing a helmet, Pivirotto could not survive the crash. Investigators have stated that there is no evidence suggesting that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. Off-duty medical personnel passing by the scene attempted life-saving measures by applying a tourniquet. A Flight For Life helicopter was dispatched to transport Pivirotto to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, but he was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital, with the helicopter landing in Montrose instead.
