The city of Chicago is in mourning at the loss of Wordlaw, who was a dedicated member of the department. An disagreement that started at a petrol station and swiftly escalated into shooting was the initial event that led to the incident that took place in the 500-block of East 67th Street at approximately 1:26 a.m.

A conflict took out at a neighborhood gas station between Rafael Wordlaw, fondly known as “Law Law,” and an unnamed male suspect. Wordlaw was involved in the confrontation. Both parties pulled out their firearms, which resulted in a gunfight between the two of them. Despite being struck in the chest, Wordlaw was able to make an attempt to flee the scene in a car. Unfortunately, he was driving his vehicle in the 6700 block of South Indiana Avenue when it collided with a pole, which made his injuries even more severe. It was shortly after his arrival that he was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was taken after being evacuated there.

In addition to his duties as a deputy, Wordlaw, who was 31 years old, was a devoted public servant and a much-loved member of the community. The officers who worked with him recall him as a conscientious officer who was dedicated to following the law and cultivating excellent relationships within the community community. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic participant in social outreach projects in the neighborhood.

The event is currently being extensively investigated by the authorities, and they are hunting for the culprit, who ran away from the scene. Any information that could be of use to the investigation is strongly encouraged to be provided by the community.

His family, friends, and coworkers will always remember the legacy of service and dedication that Wordlaw left behind and will carry forward.
