Mel Wheeler Death, Obituary – It is with heavy hearts that the staff of Ward 16 Stroke Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) come together to honor and remember our dear colleague, Mel. After dedicating over 20 years of her life to the NHS as a beloved Healthcare Assistant, Mel passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53 on July 26, 2024. Her passing followed a brief battle on the Neuro Critical Care Unit in Sheffield.
Mel was much more than a colleague; she was a cherished member of our team and a steadfast friend to many. Her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her patients made a profound impact on everyone she encountered. Mel’s sudden departure has left a void in our hearts and in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
Mel leaves behind her two teenage children, her parents, her brother, and her partner. The grief felt by her family and all who knew her is immense, and they are grappling with this loss alongside the recent passing of Mel’s partner earlier this year.
In light of this heartbreaking situation, the team at Ward 16 Stroke Unit has come together to raise funds to support Mel’s family during this challenging time. Our goal is to help alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with her funeral and to provide ongoing support for her children as they navigate the future without both of their parents. Any funds raised beyond the funeral costs will go directly to supporting Mel’s children, helping to ease their path during these difficult days. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated as we come together to honor Mel’s memory and support her loved ones through this incredibly tough time. Thank you for keeping Mel and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
