Oscar Cross Death, Obituary – It is with a heavy heart that We share the passing of Our dear friend PJ Oscar Cross, who left us this morning at KU Med Cancer Center. PJ was a remarkable individual whose contributions to our community were profound and unforgettable. PJ played a crucial role in the creation of our stage at Lavender Ranch, dedicating countless days and nights to ensure its completion just in time for the 2016 KCK Street Blues Festival. His hard work and dedication were invaluable, as he put in the effort to save the day with his unwavering commitment and skill.
From 2017 to 2019, PJ became our main sound rig expert for the KCK Street Blues Festivals. With Steve Russian’s guidance, PJ’s expertise and dedication made him an essential part of our team. His ability to handle complex setups and ensure seamless sound quality was truly impressive. In 2021, was fortunate to witness PJ’s joy as he married Ronda Cross. It was a beautiful celebration of love and partnership, reflecting PJ’s warm and caring nature.
PJ was also an honored guest at the November 2022 “Last Waltz” at Knuckleheads, a heartfelt send-off for the KCK Street Blues Festival. His presence at the event was a testament to his enduring connection to the music community and his significant impact on all of us.
The last time we saw PJ was at the Gladstone Blues Festival. Despite being barely released from KU Med Cancer Center, PJ took on the demanding task of heading up sound for the event. It was a grueling two days of work in the heat, with setup and teardown on either end. PJ’s determination and commitment were astonishing. He fulfilled his promise without hesitation, embodying the spirit of a true fighter and warrior of life.
