Fort Wayne Shooting – Two felonies have been filed against a 52-year-old Fort Wayne man following a gunshot on Saturday night that left his brother-in-law critically injured. Criminal carelessness and aggravated battery are the charges brought against Anthony Kidd. During a traffic check, he was taken into custody by the police, who then asked him if he wanted to talk to a detective.

“For what?” Kidd supposedly inquired. “I did what I did because the dude threatened me.” According to a probable cause affidavit submitted by Fort Wayne Police Officer Nicholas Heyerly, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and a laceration to his liver.

While the rest of the family was inside, witnesses, who had come at the residence to honor the victim’s nephew’s military service, claimed that the victim and the defendant were conversing outside.

Then there was a gunshot. According to court documents, the victim ran inside and screamed that Kidd had shot him. Witnesses noticed his chest was bleeding and promptly dialed 911. According to court filings, the victim told officers that he and Kidd had been opening a second bottle of Captain Morgan prior to the shooting. The victim then says that Kidd called her a “f****ing b****.”

According to court documents, the victim initially believed Kidd was speaking about his wife, but Kidd later clarified that he was speaking about his nephew. There was a verbal altercation after that. The victim discovered that Kidd was standing with his hand behind his back during the argument.

According to court filings, Kidd allegedly threatened the victim, saying, “I’ll f***ing shoot you,” before pulling a gun. The gun misfired as he tried to shoot. Kidd allegedly fired again, striking the girl as she attempted to flee into the house. After then, the suspect left the area. It’s unbelievable that he shot me. The victim then informed authorities, “I’ve known this man my entire life.” “His sister is my wife.”
