Steve Brown Death, Obituary – As many in our community will recall, we lost a cherished friend, Steve Brown, nearly 12 years ago on October 6, 2012. Steve was just 16 years old when his life was tragically cut short, but his memory and spirit live on in the hearts of those who knew him. One of the things that made Steve stand out was his unwavering love for Nickelback, his favorite band.

Tonight, some of Steve’s closest friends and I will be attending Nickelback’s concert at the Churchill Park Music Festival. While the excitement of the event is palpable, there will be a profound sense of absence—a missing piece that will be felt deeply. Steve had always dreamed of seeing Nickelback live, and it’s a dream that sadly never came to fruition during his lifetime.

In honor of Steve, we remember him fondly through the music he loved. At his celebration of life, we played the inspiring anthem “If Today Was Your Last Day,” and at his gravesite, we sang “Far Away” before laying him to rest. These songs, imbued with meaning and connection to Steve, symbolize both the joy he found in Nickelback’s music and the depth of our loss.

In our quest to honor Steve’s memory, we are reaching out to Nickelback to see if they could dedicate one of these songs—”If Today Was Your Last Day” or “Far Away”—to Steve during their performance tonight, if they happen to be part of their set list. We hope that this gesture will bring a touch of his spirit to the concert and serve as a heartfelt tribute to a young life full of promise.

Even if the band is unable to dedicate the songs directly, Steve will be there in spirit. His friends will carry with them a picture of Steve, a constant reminder of his presence and the joy he brought into our lives. As we stand among the crowd tonight, we will feel his spirit with us, and in every note of the music, we will celebrate the dream he had.

This concert is more than just an event for us; it’s a tribute to Steve’s memory and a way to fulfill a dream he never got to experience himself. We know that if he were here, he would be front and center, singing along with all his heart.

To anyone who sees this, your thoughts and support mean the world to us. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Steve’s life in this special way and to keep his memory alive through the music that he loved so dearly.
