Carl Dean Jordan Obituary, Death – Someone has been identified as one of the victims of a deadly collision that occurred outside of Collins. The Collins Fire Department reports that the collision took place at approximately midnight in the vicinity of the Okatoma Golf Course and the Collins Industrial Park.
Both a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler from Wayne-Sanderson Farms were involved in the collision, according to the Collins Police Department. Two vehicles were involved. The accident resulted in the deaths of the drivers of both automobiles.
According to Chris DaQuila, the coroner for Covington County, Carl Dean Jordan, who was 71 years old and from Laurel, was the driver of the 18-wheeler. In addition, DaQuila stated that his office was awaiting DNA confirmation of the other driver’s probable identification number. Nevertheless, he stated that they were aware that the driver was a male.
Additionally, DaQuila disclosed that both drivers would have ended up passing away “instantaneously” at the time of the collision. One of the officers who works for the police department, according to Chief Joey Ponder, told him that it was one of the worst crash scenes they had ever worked on firsthand.
As they tried to clear the area, first responders limited the number of lanes of traffic traveling northbound along United States Route 49 to one. The traffic heading south, on the other hand, was not impacted. On Tuesday morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., officers from the fire department reported that traffic had returned to its typical level.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation, the Collins Fire Department, the Collins Police Department, the Mt. Olive Volunteer Fire Department, the Covington County Medevac, the Covington County Emergency Medical Services, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Covington County Emergency Medical Services were among the agencies that responded to the incident. According to Ponder, the collision is currently being investigated, and his department will notify the public of any additional information as it becomes available.
