Sylmar High School Lockdown – According to a statement released by the Los Angeles Unified School District, a high school in the San Fernando Valley was placed under lockdown on Friday morning after “there was a disturbance on campus” and a student was found to be in possession of a firearm.
At 10:15 a.m., the principal of Sylmar High School, Rodney Wright, wrote a letter to the parents of the students, informing them that the school is currently in lockdown and would continue to be in lockdown until law enforcement provides the “all-clear” to reopen the campus.
There are multiple individuals in a campus hallway who are shoving and punching each other, while adults are attempting to intervene in the situation. The video was captured on Friday at the high school using a cell phone. It was reported by the Los Angeles City Fire Department that firefighters responded to an assault call on the same block as the high school on Borden Avenue at approximately eleven o’clock in the morning. One individual was sent to the hospital as a result of the incident. There was no more information disclosed.
According to Wright, authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the school, and at that time, the student who was in possession of the firearm was taken into custody. Throughout the remainder of the day, additional police officer patrols were deployed to the area surrounding the college.
