Xavier Powell Death, Obituary – Xavier Matthew Powell, a cherished member of the Pittsfield community, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2024, at the age of 29. Xavier’s passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends, who remember him as a vibrant individual with a passion for life and a deep commitment to his country. Born on September 30, 1994, in Pittsfield, Xavier was the son of Derek and Pamela Powell.
He grew up in a supportive and loving family environment that fostered his interests and ambitions. Xavier attended Pittsfield High School, where he excelled both academically and socially, and graduated in 2013. His passion for mechanics led him to Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned a degree in auto mechanics. Xavier’s career began in the automotive industry, where he worked as a mechanic, demonstrating his skill and dedication.
However, driven by a sense of duty and a desire to serve his country, he made the significant decision to enlist in the Army National Guard. At the time of his passing, Xavier held the rank of Specialist and was stationed at Army Aviation Support Facility 1 at Joint Base Cape Cod, where he served as a helicopter mechanic. His military service was a source of immense pride for him, reflecting his commitment and patriotism.
Outside of his professional and military life, Xavier was known for his wide array of interests. He had a keen eye for photography and loved capturing moments during his travels across the country. Family vacations to Gloucester with his grandparents were a highlight of his life, as were the moments spent riding his motorcycle, camping, and attending concerts and festivals. Xavier’s enjoyment of the outdoors extended to running with his dad and brother, working out with his roommate Connor, and gathering around campfires with his friend Farron. His passion for collecting vintage items was another facet of his dynamic personality.
Xavier is survived by his devoted parents, Derek and Pamela Powell of Pittsfield. He also leaves behind his siblings, Austin and Zabion Powell, and his sister-in-law, Eleanor Gubbins. His extended family includes his paternal great-grandmother Shirley Jones, paternal grandparents Sheila and Steve Jones, maternal grandparents Lisa and William Henningson, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His close relationships with friends and extended family were a testament to his warm and generous nature.
The community is invited to pay their respects during the calling hours at the Roche Funeral Home, located at 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA, on August 24, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Celebration of Xavier’s life will follow at 1 p.m. at Zucchini’s Restaurant on North Street in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Xavier’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, reflecting his commitment to supporting fellow service members.
