Joe passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, after a remarkable 92 years of life. His contributions to the field of dental medicine and his dedication to his profession will be remembered with great respect and admiration.

In 1988, Joe joined a research team at HSDM, where he played a pioneering role in the emerging field of dental implantology. As the Certified Dental Technician on record, Joe’s expertise and innovation were crucial in advancing this groundbreaking field. His work significantly impacted the development of dental implants and improved patient outcomes in dental care.

Joe’s commitment to his work extended beyond research; he also ran the Maloney Lab and dedicated many years to teaching. From 1988 until his retirement in 2002, he was an influential educator, shaping the knowledge and skills of a generation of pre-and-post-doctoral candidates at HSDM. His passion for teaching and his dedication to his students left a lasting mark on the institution and the field of dental medicine.
