Elizabeth “Betty” C. Kromer Death, Obituary – Elizabeth “Betty” C. (Beechler) Kromer, aged 88, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Betty’s life was a testament to love, hospitality, and unwavering kindness. Betty’s home was a haven for many. Her famous saying, “If you left my home hungry it’s your own fault,” captures her generous spirit.

She welcomed everyone with open arms, treating neighbors, friends, and even strangers like family. Known affectionately as “Mom” by the neighborhood kids, her kitchen was always open, and her heart was always full. Her life was an embodiment of Christian service and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Despite a long battle with dementia, Betty’s strength never wavered. With the help of dedicated caregivers, she remained in her home for much of her illness, later receiving loving care at The Parkvue Community Nursing Home. Her resilience and courage were admired by all. Born to Leroy and Anna Mae (Fischer) Beechler in Castalia, Ohio, Betty graduated from Margaretta High School in 1954.

After raising her family, she ventured into the workforce, starting at Decko Products and eventually retiring from Sandusky Plastics after many years of dedicated service. A woman of deep faith, Betty was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sandusky and the First Congregational Church in Castalia. Even during her time at Parkvue, she faithfully attended weekly services in their chapel, accompanied by her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert G. Kromer, her son Leonard L. Kromer, her grandson Gilbert D. Kromer, and her dear friend Marie Severance. She leaves behind a loving family: her children, Betty J. Kromer, Loriann (Tim) Wilkes, Lisa (Mark) Bailey, Leslie “Homer” (Holly) Kromer, and Lynnette “Lucy” Kromer (Jim Kimberlin); her grandchildren, Krista Mulvin, Lenny (Amy) Kromer, Ben Kromer

Justin (Amanda) Wilkes, Bruce (Mandy) Notestine, Emily (Marc) Bolen, Michael Kromer (Andria Zacharias), John Kromer, Haley Kromer, Dylan (Beth Anne) Hermes, and Madison (Mitch) McGuckin; eleven great-grandchildren; her sister, Agnes Nickle; her brother, Sherwood “Mike” Beechler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Betty’s life on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 am, with Pastor Justin Jump presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio Chapter or Parkvue Community. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Parkvue Community for their exceptional care and compassion during Betty’s final days. Betty Kromer’s legacy of love, generosity, and faith will continue to inspire all who were touched by her remarkable life.
