John Bliss Obituary, Death – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Bliss, a distinguished Senior Instructor in the Department of Communication, Media and Theatre (CMT) at Northeastern Illinois University. John passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 66. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in the lives of those who knew him and the many students he inspired over the years. John Bliss was a dedicated educator and a cherished member of the Northeastern Illinois University community.

With a career spanning several decades, he made a profound impact on students and colleagues alike through his passion for teaching and his commitment to the fields of communication, media, and theatre. John was known for his engaging lectures, his mentorship, and his ability to connect with students on a personal level, making him a beloved figure within the department. In addition to his role as an instructor, John was an active participant in various departmental and university activities, always striving to enhance the educational experience for his students. His contributions went beyond the classroom, influencing many through his guidance and support.

John is survived by his sister, Melody Bliss; his brother, Russell Bliss; and his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Cook, Natalie Wargin, and Pam Bliss. He is also remembered by his niece, Caroline Bliss, along with many cousins and friends who will miss him deeply. John was preceded in death by his father, James Bliss; his mother, Stella Bliss; and his brother, Steven Bliss. To honor John’s memory and celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 28, from 5-7 p.m. at Big Chicks, located at 5024 N. Sheridan Rd. in Chicago.
